Missionary Update: A Young Boy’s Faith in Action

As I continue my time here in Lubumbashi, I had an encounter that deeply moved me. I met a young boy named Elijah, a 12-year-old who walks the streets sharing the gospel despite having almost nothing.

Elijah lives in the Kivu region and has no parents—no mother, no father. Yet, instead of turning to the streets, gangs, or rebel groups, he has chosen to cling to Christ. The church provides him with food, and in return, he dedicates his days to spreading the message of Jesus to anyone who will listen.

When he paused outside my house, I had the opportunity to sit with him, listen to his story, and truly see his heart. He is just a child, but his faith is unshakable. He walks from place to place, knocking on doors, sharing Christ with strangers, and relying on God for his daily needs. If someone welcomes him in, he shares a meal with them. If not, he moves on, trusting that God will provide.

This encounter reminded me of how real and present Christ is—especially to those who have nothing else. Elijah’s life is a testimony that God is truly a Father to the fatherless. In a world where so many children grow up with both parents yet feel lost, here is a boy with no earthly family who has found everything in Christ.

I have chosen to journey with him and mentor him, to walk alongside him as he continues to grow in faith. My prayer is that God will use this time to shape him into a strong and faithful man, one who will continue to carry the light of Christ to others.

Please keep Elijah in your prayers. Pray that God protects him, strengthens his faith, and provides for him. May he continue to walk in the light and grow into the man God has called him to be.
